PURPOSE: In the ATM based system wherein a multicasting server manages a host group, a multicasting method in the ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) network is provided so that a host which doesn't belong to the group carries out multicasting for the hosts which belong to the group. CONSTITUTION: A host-A which intends to execute multicasting for hosts which belong to a group searches whether there is the virtual channel information of a multicast server in his mapping table(S210). If there is no virtual channel information, the host-A carries out negotiations to obtain a virtual channel and a virtual channel identifier with the multicast server(S230). The host-A adds the virtual channel and the virtual channel identifier in his mapping table(S240). The host-A transmits an associated packet data to the multicast server using obtained virtual channel information(S250).
