PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling brightness of screen using counter counting green pixel value in image sensor are provided to reduce the load of S/W and H/W using counters counting green pixel values and automatically control the brightness of the screen, thereby enhancing the performance of the image sensor. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling brightness of screen using counter counting green pixel value in image sensor comprises a data discriminator(400), plural data counters(Cnt1-CntN), first and second adding and comparing units(410,420), a controller(430) and an integrated time generator(440). The data discriminator(400) receives G pixel values, a reference value and comparative values to compare the G pixel values and the reference value and output plural count control signals. The data counters(Cnt1-CntN) perform count operation in response to the count control signals output from the data discriminator. The adding and comparing units(410,420) add and compare the count values from the counters. The controller(430) outputs integrated time update signals and brightness control rate required to update the integrated time.
