PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly allow relative movement in the direction crossing the direction of vibration of a pair of members, ensure a damping function by a simple structure, and suppress an increase of vibration at the time of erroneous operation. SOLUTION: This damping device 4 is provided between a pair of members to damp vibration. A hydraulic cylinder 8 is mounted between a pair of members, and an operating fluid supply means 15 supplying operating fluid to the hydraulic cylinder is provided. An energizing means 26 supporting a part of a load of one of the members is provided by energizing the hydraulic cylinder in the direction of elongation to bring it into contact with one of the members at a predetermined pressure so that the hydraulic cylinder is brought into contact with one of the members slidably in the facial direction crossing the movable direction of the hydraulic cylinder at a right angle. Flow resistance is imposed to the operating fluid, and a damping means adjusting the flow resistance is provided in the operating fluid supply means.
