<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decide the coercive force of a magnetic card to be used. SOLUTION: This is a method for deciding the coercive force of a magnetic card for reproducing or recording magnetic information formed in a low coercive force card or a high coercive force card inserted from a card insertion port by a magnetic head. In this case, the data of the card inserted with currents capable of erasing only the data of the low coercive force card are erased (step S32), and then the data of the card are reproduced (a step S33), and when the data are in a destructive state (step 34; No), it is decided that the inserted card is the low coercive force card (step S36). The destructive state of the data can be decided based on the number of times of the magnetic reversal of the reproduced data or the result that any predecided specific data (STX code) which should be recorded in the card is not recognized.</p> |
