PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a tray from being switched between different kinds of paper and to prevent unintended paper from being fed when feeding paper by providing each paper feeding tray with paper kind information of the tray, and switching over to the tray with the same kind of paper as the kind of paper of the selected paper feeding tray. SOLUTION: Kinds of paper installed in a plurality of paper feeding trays can be set by key operation on an operation panel. A menu key 107 is pressed down to enter a printer setting mode, and an arrow mark up key 105, an arrow mark down key 109 and an enter key 108 are used to display the set image plane of tray 1 paper kind on a display part 101, and the choices (ordinary paper, reclaimed paper, special paper) are displayed by pressing down the arrow mark key. This setting is set to other paper kind set value so as to be able to determine an object for tray retrieval at the time of automatic paper selection and an object for tray retrieval at the time of limitless paper feeding.
