There is provided a press for punching holes in an elongated workpiece comprising a base, a press head slidingly engaging the base, having a plurality of punches extending towards the base. A drive engaging the base and the press head is provided for reciprocally driving the press head towards the base. A die is affixed to the base for receiving the punches. A guide is affixed to the base for directing the punches towards the die. A clamp is affixed to the base for receiving the workpiece and releasably securing the workpiece between the punches and the die. Sensors are provided having an operational mode when the workpiece is in a desired location between the punch and the die and a stand by mode when the workpiece is not in the desired location. The drive being ready for activation for reciprocally driving the punches through the workpiece when the sensors are in the operational mode. Ejectors are provided for ejecting the workpiece from the press upon withdrawal of the punches from the workpiece.
