The arrangement includes a drive element (10) and a resistance element (12), in whose transport slot the sheet material (14) is transported supported on an opposite bearing (18). At least one key element (24) is provided, whose key section (26) borders on a surface of the sheet material opposite the bearing, and is diverted according to the thickness of the material. A magnetic sensor (38), preferably a Hall-sensor, records a magnetic field, preferably produced through a permanent magnet (34), which changes dependent on the path of the key section, and submits a corresponding signal. The magnetic field and the sensor are arranged in such way in the area of the key section, that the magnetic field goes through the transport slot and/or the sheet material located in it.
