PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sulfur-containing organosilicon compound bearing a polysulfide structure of high purity useful as a compound for rubber via a simplified process by allowing sulfur to react with a specific halogenoalkoxysilane in no need of high-temperature treatment and treatment under vacuum. SOLUTION: (A) Sulfur, (B) an alkali metal, preferably metallic sodium, and (C) a halogenoalkoxysilane of the formula (R1-O)3-Si-R2-X (R1 is a 1-5C monovalent hydrocarbon; R2 is a 1-9C divalent hydrocarbon; X is a halogen), for example, triethoxysilpropyl chloride or the like are allowed to react with one another, preferably in an aprotic solvent, for example, dimethoxyethane, preferably in an inert atmosphere to give the objective compound of the formula (R1-O)3-Si-R2-Sx-R2-Si-(O-R1)3 ((x) is 2-6).
