PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a refractory having excellent corrosion resistance especially to a molten material such as molten metal, molten slag, etc., or a high-temperature gas, abrasion resistance and thermal sock resistance by forming the refractory from AlN and Al in a specific ratio. SOLUTION: This refractory comprises 60-96 wt.% of AlN and 4-25 wt.% of Al. The refractory is obtained, for example, by pressure forming mixed powder of low- purity Al source powder which is metal Al or Al alloy powder and has 50-85 wt.% total metal content including alloy elements such as Si, Mg, etc., and high-purity Al source powder containing >=95 wt.% Al and sintering the formed material in a nitrogen atmosphere. The amount of the high-purity Al source powder is preferably <30 pts.wt. of based on 100 pts.wt. of the low-purity Al source powder. When the amount of the high-purity Al source powder is >=30 pts.wt., a refractory having an AlN coating film covering a part or a whole of the surface layer is obtained. In the case of producing the refractory having the AlN coating film, preferably the refractory has 10-45% porosity. The thickness of the AlN concentrated coating film is preferably 0.1-5 mm. |
