ub 4 is splined to rotate with shaft 3. Gears 5, 6 are free to rotate on shaft 3 but are fixed axially. Annular pistons 7, 8 are movable axially by fluid pressure via ports 15, 15a, 16, 16a. Outward movement of pistons 7, 8 squeezes plates 25, 26 which are alternately splined to shaft 3 and hub 4. Sequential control via microswitches is also disclosed.
