PURPOSE: This concerns a method for manufacturing 1-methylcarbapenem derivatives, an anti-helicobacter pylori composition containing an ester as an active ingredient, and an anti-helicobacter pylori medicine and a method for administering the pharmaceutically effective amount to a warm blood animal. CONSTITUTION: 1-methylcarbapenem derivatives of general formula (I) and pharmacologically acceptable salts and esters thereof, useful as the active ingredient of anti-helicobacter pylori compositions (such as therapeutic or preventive agents for Helicobacter piloriinfections, particularly the therapeutic agents). In said formula, R1 is (IIa), (IIb), (IIc) or (IId), wherein R2 is hydrogen or alkyl; and R3 is hydrogen or alkyl.
