PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric resonator where a stable frequency characteristic is obtained against a temperature change and excellent shock resistance is also obtained. SOLUTION: This piezoelectric resonator is a surface mount piezoelectric resonator 1 consisting of a piezoelectric substrate 2, a recessed ceramic container 3 containing the piezoelectric substrate 2 and a cover 4 to seal an opening of the ceramic container 3. A terminal electrode provided to one end on the surface of the piezoelectric substrate 2 and a land 7 provided in the inside of the ceramic container 3 are fixed so as to electrically connected by means of a cunti-lever support. A buffer section 11 made of an elastic member not in contact with the piezoelectric substrate 2 is provided under a free end 9 of the piezoelectric substrate 2. Thus, in the case that a shock is exerted to the piezoelectric resonator 1, the piezoelectric substrate 2 collides with the buffer 11 to prevent the piezoelectric substrate 2 from being damaged and thus, the shock resistance of the piezoelectric resonator 1 is enhanced.
