The method involves using an addressable memory in the electronic label to authenticate the dialogue with the equipment. The procedure enables a dialogue to be established between at least one electronic label (10) and a remote read/write interrogation device (40). The label includes an addressable memory (22) containing the associated product information in binary form. The process includes transmission of a message from the interrogation device containing at least two binary words indicating, firstly, a criteria for selection of information from the memory, and secondly the address of this information in the addressable memory. This information is detected within the electronic label and the information sought in the memory. The read binary word is compared with the selection criteria and the result of the comparison is memorized. This authorizes the opening of a dialogue between the electronic label and the interrogation device.
