PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water stop material having high water stop performance, excellent long-term stability, self-sealability, high underground following properties in laying, and the easiness of laying by integrating a composition containing a petroleum wax and a water-swellable clay with a flexible substance capable of receiving the composition. SOLUTION: It is desirable that the composition contains 20-90 wt.% petroleum wax and 80-10 wt.% water-swellable clay. The petroleum wax is desirably petrolatum. The water-swellable clay is particularly desirably bentonite. It is desirable that the composition is prepared by thoroughly mixing the mixture so that the both may be uniformly dispersed at a temperature higher than the temperature at which the petroleum wax can melt. The flexible substance capable of receiving the composition is desirably a woven fabric, a nonwoven fabric, or a sponge. To integrate the composition with the flexible substance, a melt of the composition is infiltrated into the flexible substance, and then cooled and coagulated. The impregnation is desirably performed by a method comprising immersing the flexible substance in a melt of the composition. |
