Method of monitoring and preventing short circuits or short circuit-like states in electronic equipment connected to mains

The method involves applying the voltage of the current supply to the equipment via a series resistance (RVO) on first switching it on. The supply voltage is then checked at the equipment end and a switch (SW1) which bridges the series resistance is only closed when the voltage at the equipment end has reached a defined characteristic value. The supply voltage is checked at an electrolytic capacitor (EL1,EL2) at the equipment end. The switching state of the switch is indicated, esp. by visual means.
