Composite polymer materials containing biodegradable polymer materials and thus being biodegradable in soil, etc. These composite materials, which contain ribbon-type bacteria cellulose microfibrils which can be biologically degraded by microorganisms and biodegradable polymer materials, have improved physical properties such as tensile strength. Such a composite polymer material is produced by the following process. A specific microorganism is cultured in a liquid medium and thus bacteria cellulose is produced by the microorganism. After recovering, the bacteria cellulose is dried, powdered and then blended with a biodegradable polymer material to give the aimed composite product.
