A hydroxyl and uretedione group containing polyisocyanate has a built in hindered amine light stabilizer based on hydroxyethyl-amino-tetramethylpiperidine. A hydroxy- and uretedione group containing polyisocyanate (I) containing a built-in hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS stabilizer) is based on aliphatic and (cyclo)aliphatic diisocyanate-uretediones and TAD-OL compounds of formula (1). The polyisocyanate (I) has at least 2 terminal hydroxyl groups, a m.pt. of 60-140 deg C, molecular weight of 1,000-15,000, total NCO content of 5-20 wt.% and free NCO content of less than or equal to 1 wt.%. A = H or RCH(OH)CH2; R = H, 1-20C alkyl or cycloalkyl optionally substituted with 1-3 methyl groups; X = H, CH3, CH3CO, RCH(OH)CH2. Independent claims are included for: (i) a process for the production of (I) in a solvent or solvent free process, discontinuously in a reactor or continuously in an intensive mixer; and (ii) a transparent or pigmented polyurethane powder paint (III) that is non-cleavable and contains (I) and hydroxyl group containing polymers in addition to additives and processing aids.
