STEEL RULE CUTTING DIE WITH REMOVABLE CUTTING UNITS AND METHOD FOR USING SAME

A steel rule die for cutting cloth and synthetic materials. The cutting die includes a primary substrate (1) and a plurality of cutting units (2-6) that are removably attachable to the substrate. The cutting units (2-6) include lengths of steel rule (8) which are attached to secondary substrates (7) to form cutting cavities. Studs (9) mounted to the primary substrate (1) interface with teardrop-shaped holes (11) in the secondary substrates (7) to restrain them against motion perpendicular to the primary substrate's (1) surface while permitting lateral motion. Adjustable securing rails (14-15) positioned along the peripheries of the primary substrate (1) are moved toward the fixed securing rails (12-13) to restrain the secondary substrates against lateral and longitudinal motion. Foam (21) can be disposed between the cutting units (2-6) to aid in the removal of scrap material.
