The device is designed for the control of the contactor (1) of an automobile starter. It includes an electronic system (T, 3, 4) which controls the contactor as a function of the closed or open state of the starter switch. The control system (T, 3, 4) includes means (4) which at the initiation of starter switch opening, prevents the actuation of the contactor during a protection time period. The control system includes a microprocessor (3), which at the moment of opening of the starter switch (2), blocks for the protection time a controlled switch (T) which controls the electrical supply of the contactors coils.
