The calender has a number of calendar areas (2) each of which is provided with electronically readable codes (9). The code is designed for creating an electronic back-up of the handwritten entry made in the calendar area. The codes (9) include absolute position coding patterns (9a,9b) which extend across the calendar areas. A handwritten entry which is made in the calendar areas, is recorded digitally in the form of a coordinate sequence by detecting the absolute position coding pattern. The time period corresponding to the calendar area is determined on the basis of the coordinate in the sequence. Command defining the execution of the written data is stored in the calendar area.
