PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the display characteristics, especially visual characteristics in all directions, by combining a specified optically anisotropic film and a light- diffusing layer. SOLUTION: This element consists of an optically anisotropic film (A) and at least one light-diffusing layer (B). The optically anisotropic film (A) substantially consists of a liquid crystal polymer showing optically positive uniaxial property, in which the nematic hybrid orientation structure produced in a liquid crystal state of liquid crystal polymers is fixed. The liquid crystal polymer which constitutes the film (A) has a nematic phase as a liquid crystal phase, and at a temp. higher than the liquid crystal transition point on an orienting substrate, it forms nematic hybrid orientation and can be fixed as a glass state without damaging the orientation form. The light-diffusing layer (B) is not limited as far as it has property to isotropically or anisotropically diffuse incident light, and consists of, for example, a plastic sheet, plastic film, plastic substrate or the like showing light diffusing property. |
