The method involves forming a sealed joint between a metal pipe (1) containing a leak (2) and a metal sleeve (3) extending over the latter. The sleeve is expanded against the inside of the wall of the pipe, the metal of which is of greater tensile strength. The coefficient of heat-expansion of the sleeve material can be equal to or greater than that of the pipe material.
