<p>A networked communication system which includes at least one talking toy for communicating messages to an individual. The system also includes a server and a remote interface connected to the server for specifying the messages to be communicated. The talking toy is connected to the server via a communication network, preferably the Internet. The server includes a script generator for generating script programs which are executed by the talking toy to deliver the messages. The script programs may be executed by the talking toy at user-specified times to deliver the messages to a user at specified times. The talking toy includes a modem for receiving the script programs from the server, a microcontroller for executing the script programs, and a speech synthesizer for audibly communicating the messages to the individual. The talking toy may further include at least one user interface means, and a signaling means for signaling a user that a message is waiting. Because the talking toy may be programmed remotely through the use of script programs, the system allows flexible and dynamic updating of the messages delivered by the toy, as well as tailoring of the messages to the needs of an individual user or group of users.</p> |
