摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the brightness of white display in a reflection type liquid crystal display device using one piece of polarizer. SOLUTION: This reflection type liquid crystal display device is constituted of a 1st base plate 1 arranged on an incident side, the polarizer 4 arranged on the incident side similarly and a 2nd base plate 2 arranged on a reflection side so as to be bonded to the 1st base plate 1 through a specified gap. A liquid crystal layer 3 is positioned on the 1st base plate 1 side in the gap between both base plates, and the axis of polarization of linearly polarized light passing through the polarizer 4 is rotated by about 45 deg.. A light reflection layer 8 is positioned on the 2nd base plate side in the gap between both base plates. A 1/4 wavelength layer 9 is allowed to intervene between the liquid crystal layer 3 and the light reflection layer 8. Electrodes are respectively formed on the 1st and the 2nd base plates 1 and 2 so as to impress voltage on the liquid crystal layer 3.
