The trailer comprises a lower chassis (1) with backbone or peripheral frame of steel, or hollow aluminium profile sections, an upper chassis (2), a coupling (5), single or tandem axles (6), brakes, lighting and registration plate. The upper chassis is detachably locked on the lower chassis and carries bodywork (3,4), e.g. platform, box, or caravan. The lower chassis may be structurally adequate for unloaded use only and the assembled upper and lower chassis provide a structure which is adequate for the design loads. The brakes may be dual circuit hydraulic or electronically controlled. To facilitate interchanging, the upper chassis may have powered extending legs and the lower chassis may rise and fall on air springs, and may carry an air compressor.
