A coke-fired gas circulation cupola furnace, for material and/or energy recovery from waste (e.g. domestic waste fractions of various compositions), has furnace gas suction openings arranged around the shaft periphery below the throat and connected by channels to nozzles installed above the hearth in the region of the melting and superheating zone, the nozzles having central oxygen lances and functioning as a gas jet compressor. The novelty is that the conical shaft (26) has (a) large annular suction and quiescent gas chambers (5, 12) located in the regions of the circulating gas and excess gas suction levels (2, 11) and connected by a constricted shaft portion (9), which incorporates a direct oxygen injection lance (13) inclined towards the melting and superheating zone; and (b) a gas suction outlet (27) located below the throat hopper (1).
