A bis2,4-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl) phenyl-2,6-dimethylphenyl aryldiphosphate compound (I) is of formula (1). Also claimed are (i) a process for the preparation of (I) by formation of a dichlorophosphate intermediate by reaction of phosphoroxy chloride with a compound of formula (2) in the presence of a catalyst followed by reaction of the intermediate with a compound of formula (3) in the presence of a catalyst and reaction with a compound of formula (4). (ii) a composition comprising 100 pts.wt. of a polymeric resin and -0.1-50 pts.wt. (I).
