Process for obtaining ethyl (+-)-cis/(+-)-trans-4-(4- fluorophenyl)-1-methylpiperidine-3-carboxylate, of formula I <IMAGE> which is based on the fact that the ethyl 4-(4- fluorophenyl)-2-piperidinone-5-carboxylate is subjected to reduction by lactam carbonyl to yield ethyl 4-(4- fluorophenyl)-piperidine-3-carboxylate, followed by methylation.
