QUADRUPOLE TIME-OF-FLIGHT MASS SPECTROMETER METHOD AND APPARATUS

A time-of-flight mass spectrometer and method in which ions are trapped in a two-dimensional quadrupole, and are then pulsed through a gate into another two-dimensional quadrupole where they are further trapped until they are extracted sideways through one of the electrodes of the extraction region quadrupole, into the flight tube of the TOF mass spectrometer. This increases the efficiency of transmitting ions into the TOF tube, increasing sensitivity.
