FIELD: processing of complex-shape articles, preferably metal articles. SUBSTANCE: method involves heating surface by plasma arc, which is generated by anode and cathode, which is directed at angle to processing plane, positioning of anode spot on anode and modulation of electric arc by permanent magnetic field. Surface of article is heated by electric arc which is generated by rotating cooled anode and cooled cathode with anode spot which runs over anode in reciprocal movement with amplitude of oscillations of less than 250 mm under effect of at least one alternating magnetic field(s) which are arranged along travel route of anode spot and generated by electromagnets. Plasma are in this moment is separated from surface of article by means of permanent magnetic fields by distance of at least 3 mm; anode spot is positioned on anode on distance of 1.0-25.0 mm from surface of article which is driven with respect to arc at speed of 0.01-25.0 cm per second under level of plasma arc current of 50-600 A. Movement of anode spot is done with alternation of movement direction vector. Axis of cathode is directed at angle of 15-180 with respect to axis of rotating anode which is grounded. Article under processing is also grounded through controlled active resistance and inductance. Nozzle of cathode assembly is connected to positive terminal of power supply through active resistance and contactor. Another claim of invention describes device design which implements said method.
