PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject fiber containing an anthraquinone compound, etc., having good strength, elongation and toughness and useful for industrial material uses such as sheet belts, air bags, safety belts, conveyer belts, safety nets, curing mesh and sheets for engineering works or ropes. SOLUTION: A polyester composition of polyethylene terephthalate, etc., containing an anthraquinone or a compound containing the anthraquinone as main skeleton and having <=400 molecular weight is melt-spun and taken up at <=3,000 m/min spinning rate. The spun yarn is oriented in a draw ratio of >=85% based on limit draw ratio and subjected to relax treatment of >=13% to provide the objective fiber having >=5 g/d strength T (g/d) and >=20% elongation E and satisfying the formula TO=T×E [TO is toughness (g/s.%)] and having >=220 g/d.% toughness and useful for heavy fabrics.
