The spin dryer, for laundry, has a motor (17) to rotate the drum (5), and a weight (10) at the drum (5) wall to give an imbalance. A detector (26) registers the magnitude and location of the drum (5) loaded with laundry for drying. A detection system gives the relationship between the position of the imbalance and the position of the weight (10). A control system sets the rotation of the drum (5) to position the laundry when the value of the imbalance exceeds a nominal value and the position of the imbalance is away from the immediate environment of a location at the inner drum wall opposite the weight (10), and control the motor (17) accordingly.
