Belt taking up device with comfort spring and variable spring switching

The belt taking up device has an take-up spring and a comfort spring in series with it. The switching to the take-up spring on the casting off of the seat belt is controlled in dependence on the extent to which the belt is required to be pulled out. The switching device operates in dependence on the revolutions of the belt shaft to move a switching gear wheel (25) in an annular switching ring (23). The switching device switches to the comfort spring (12) after the initial pulling out of the belt and back to the take-up spring (18) when the revolutions of the belt shaft have been measured.
