The invention relates to a method and an installation for simultaneously levelling and sorting fresh and dry sawn timber. The simultaneous handling of fresh and dry sawn timber products is difficult when these are mixed with one another, and the quality of the work is adversely affected. According to the invention, the fresh and the dry sawn timber products are separated from one another and treated differently so that the one category of sawn timber products is guided with the end that is to be levelled along one side 23 of the levelling sector within reach of the sorter 17 and the cutting arrangement 18, and the other category of sawn timber products with the unlevelled end along the opposite side 22 of the levelling sector, within reach of the sorter and the cutting arrangement 16. The installation preferably comprises a miniature hauling plant 10; 30 and a dispensing arrangement 11; 21; 31, by means of which the sawn timber products are arranged in a layer and each log at the respective projection interval on the conveyor 12.
