摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the display quality by making this device have a constitution, in which liquid crystal molecules in the mid-plane of a liquid crystal composition have the inclination of specific angles with respect to the longitudinal direction of a signal line to obtain a picture, which is bright and has satisfactory contrast. SOLUTION: This reflection type TFT-LCD 17 is constituted by sealing TN mode liquid crystal 21 between an array substrate 18 and a counter substrate 20. Then, liquid crystal molecules in the mid-plane of a liquid crystal composition are made to have the inclination of 60-120 degrees with respect to the longitudinal direction a signal line. By constituting the device in such a manner, even when the electric fields of a traverse direction are generated gap parts between signal lines and pixel electrodes 27, since an initial oriented direction in the mid-plane of the TN mode liquid crystal 21 is originally performed in the traverse direction forming the angle of 60-120 degrees with the signal lines being the same as that of electric fields of the traverse direction, luminance modulations of gap parts due to the lectric fields of the traverse direction are hardly generated and a strip pattern is never generated in the signal direction and the contrast is prevented from being lowered to improve the display quality.
