A rock raking apparatus (20) which is adapted to be attached to a self-propelled vehicle (21) and includes a rock raking unit (30) with a toothed rotor (43) and a rock collector bucket (31) pivotably connected to the raking unit (30). The rotor (43) is driven to propel rocks into the bucket (31). The raking unit (30) includes a power-rotated brush (70) positioned to deflect the propelled rocks into the rear of the bucket (31), to clean the surface of the rotor (43) to prevent carryover and to prevent the formation of rock barricades at the entrance of the bucket (31) to assure that the bucket (31) is filled. The rotor (43) is based on a cylindrical drum (100) having a pattern of symmetrical radially extending teeth (110) affixed to the peripheral surface thereof.
