The controller (1) has an input (2,3) which receives control inputs from a number of illuminated push-buttons (7) and an output (4,5) which controls supply to an electrical load (6). This output is connected through an impedance control circuit (11) which is controlled in response to the output of an impedance adapter circuit (12).The impedance adapter provides signals representative of the state of the push-button controls, and is able to modify the impedance of the processing circuit (12) of the electrical controller as a function of the current at its input. The impedance is altered in steps corresponding to different states of the push-buttons
