The invention relates to a saponified extract of Tagetes Erecta L.(cempasuchil) of which the zeaxanthin content is comprised between 20 % and 80 % of the total of xantophyles, as well as a formulation and a process for its dosing, comprising and administering approximately between 10 and 55 ppm of the saponified xantophyles of cempasuchil which have a zeaxanthine content comprised between 20 and 80 % to the food or beverage of birds in order to provide for the skin pigmentation of chicken and the pigmentation of the yolk and give them the commercially required coloration.
