The headrest (1) has a guide section, fastened to the backrest, and a counter section (4) sliding on the guide section. The headrest is loaded by a pretensioned spring (11) in an upward direction. A traction element (12) fastened to the headrest draws it downwards against the spring tension, when it is tilted forward. The counter section has toothed rack part formed to mesh with a drive pinion (9). This is turnable about a backrest-fastened shaft, and is moved sidewards out of engagement with the rack part, when the backrest is tilted forward.
