A non-contact power transmission apparatus, a non-contact signal transmitter (which will be referred to as the "power coupler" and the "signal coupler", respectively) and a separation type machine using the couplers. The power coupler is a separation type transformer the primary and secondary sides of which are fixed to a fixed portion and to a rotating portion of a machine, respectively, and its output is independent of the revolution of the rotating portion. The signal coupler comprises a transmission side portion having a unit for converting electric signals to optical signals having symmetry of rotation with respect to the axis of rotation of the rotating portion, and a reception side portion having a photoelectric unit for converting the optical signals to the electric signals. Accordingly, the rotating portion can receive the supply of power from the fixed portion while rotating, and can communicate with the fixed portion. The rotating portion can be easily fitted to the fixed portion and can be separated and moved.
