Vibrating ram for piles in building construction

The ram has a driving head (1) which grips the piles, or posts, and drives them into the ground. A control unit (9) is linked to sensors (10) on the driving head and controls the amplitude of the vibrations. The vibrator drive is kept above a set lower threshold frequency related to the resonant frequency of the ground (6). This prevents damage to adjoining structures. The threshold frequency is set a little above the resonant frequency of the ground. The applied amplitude is related to the operating frequency above the threshold value. The rate at which the pile/post is driven into the ground is monitored by other sensors and is controlled by the control unit. The same ram system can be used to pull posts out of the ground.
