AQUEOUS TREATING AGENT FOR DRAWING STAINLESS STEEL WIRE AND DRAWING OF STAINLESS STEEL WIRE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aqueous treating agent capable of quickly forming a uniform coating film in the drawing of a stainless steel wire and provide a process for the in-line drawing of a stainless steel wire capable of continuing the drawing operation at a high speed over a long period. SOLUTION: This aqueous treating agent for the drawing of a stainless steel wire contains potassium sulfate and a condensate of sodiumβ- naphthalenesulfonate with formaldehyde as essential components. The amount of the condensate of sodiumβ-naphthalenesulfonate with formaldehyde is >=0.02 pt.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of potassium sulfate. The drawing of stainless steel wire is performed by carrying out the following steps (1) to (4) in the order in line. (1) A film-forming process for forming a coating film of the aqueous treating agent on the surface of a stainless steel rod, (2) a process for drying the coating film, (3) a lubricating process to apply a lubricant to the surface and (4) a drawing process to form a thin wire by drawing the rod.
