The electrical socket 12 is fitted with an earthing conductor 14 that locates in a carrier ring 16. In addition there is a contact clip 18 secured to the carrier ring to provide an electrical connection. The contact clip is formed as a leaf spring element and the free end engages the earthing conductor and ensures good electrical contact. The clip can be rivetted, clamped, welded or soldered to the ring.
