Method of improving a smooth oxidation reaction between at least one reactant and oxygen, according to which at least one reactant is reacted with oxygen or a gas containing oxygen, forming a reaction mixture, in the presence of at least one third gas introduced into the said reaction mixture and chosen from methane, ethane and helium, and then, if appropriate, the product resulting from the oxidation reaction is treated with a view to obtaining a final product.
