摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accomplish accurate calculation of the residual service life by judging whether foreign matters exist in a piping or not while the piping involved is excluded as a sample when any foreign matter exists. SOLUTION: A supersonic thickness gauge 16 measures the time until an ultrasonic wave emitted from a probe 14 reflects from the rear of a piping 12 and returns to calculate the thickness of the piping 12. The waveform of the reflected echo can be observed by a synchroscope 18 connected to the ultrasonic thickness gauge 16. When the ultrasonic wave hits foreign matters 20 existing in the piping 12 and reflects, a defect echo appears on a screen of the synchroscope 18. The piping involved can be removed from samples and there is not error in the recognition of the piping 12. This enables accurate calculation of the residual service life by a CPU 28 and the results are outputted from a printer 30.
