PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to produce magnetic powder having excellent magnetic characteristics by subjecting the magnetic powder to a heat treatment in a hydrogen atmosphere, thereby improving the powder fineness of magnetized powder and reducing its grain size and to obtain a magnetic card with which forgery is well prevented. SOLUTION: The magnetic layer is formed by using the magnetic powder expressed by general formula Rx T100-x-y My , where R is at least one kind of rare earth elements (including Y) consisting essentially of Sm; T is at least one kind of transition elements consisting essentially of Co; M is at least one kind among Si, Ti, Al, Ga, V, Cr, Mn, Cu, Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, Ta, W, Pt and Au; the compsn. value (x) of R is 16.0 to 22.0at.% and the compsns. value (y) of M is 0<=y<=2.5at.%), subjecting this magnetic powder to a heat treatment in a hydrogen atmosphere and applying such magnetic powder on a card base body. |
