PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating composition containing particles of a specific silicon-containing substance and a modified metal oxide, respectively and giving a coating layer excellent in resistance to scuffing, adhesion, resistance to water, transparency, resistances to light and weather without occurrence of interference fringes. SOLUTION: This composition comprises (A) particles of a silicon-containing substance selected from an organosilicon compound and its hydrolyzate of formulas I and II (R<1> and R<3> are each an alkyl, an aryl; R<2> is a 1-8C alkyl, an alkoxyalkyl; a and b are each 0-2 and a+b is 0-2; R<4> is a 1-5C alkyl; X is a 1-4C alkyl, an acyl; Y is methylene, a 2-20C alkylene; c is 0, 1) preferably γ-glycidoxypropyl-trimethoxysilane and (B) particles of a modified metal oxide prepared by coating particles of (i) an oxide of a trito pentavalent metal as a core (preferably a tin oxide) on their surfaces with (ii) the particles if zinc stannate hydrate of formula III where x:y:z is 1:(0.83-1.43):(1-5) in moles, thus the primary particle size of the coated particles is 4.5-100nm. |
