The seat is fitted to a motor vehicle, and is especially a rear seat, or a rear bench seat, and has a frame with front and rear feet. At least the latter can be connected to the vehicle floor structure, using a releasable locking device, and both feet are connected by arms to the supporting structure of the seat, in order to form a four bar linkage. At least one longitudinal side rail (8) is connected rigidly to the rear foot, and is hinged to the front arm (10) between its joint axes (4,11). At least one tie (23) is hinged to the front arm, with an axis (22) which is parallel to both of the joint axes on the arm, and is at a distance from them. The tie has a slotted link (24) for a control bolt (25), which is arranged on the longitudinal side rail, at a distance from each end.
