The compressor's evacuation space is built directly into a drive cartridge (1) and is charged with blocking gas whose pressure exceeds that of the pressure in the compressor housing (4) but less than the design pressure of the parts of the compressor guiding the gas. The space is preferably made up of chambers (15a), channels (15b) or annular grooves (15c) directly integrated with the cartridge (1), or alternatively in the form of gas-permeable, porous or finely ribbed areas, again directly integrated with the cartridge (1). Additional components include electrical conduits (9,10) in vacuum-tight design plus cartridge cover (16), as also cooling and metering etc lines also vacuum-tight, using a lidded pressure container which connects the cartridge to the main compressor housing via interposed flange.
