1,225,514. Vertebrate trains. SOC. ANON. DE IRENES VERTEBRADOS. 9 April, 1968 [10 April, 1967], No. 16894/68. Heading B7L. A vertebrate train comprises a series of cylinders 10, 11, 12 &c. resiliently joined around their peripheries and pivoted to each other about vertical axes, each cylinder having one (or more) rubber-tyred support wheels 7 at each side running on rails 5, and guide wheels (not shown) rotating about vertical axes and co-operating with the vertical sides of the support rails 5. The cylinders are joined peripherally by a resilient wall inset in the ends of the cylinders, and are pivoted at top and bottom by pins resiliently engaging tongues 23 and 24, or 25, 26 and 27 on the cylinders. The ends of the cylinders are convexly curved (in plan) to permit mutual pivoting. The wheels 7 support the cylinder at the height of its centre of gravity. Additional safety wheels may be provided. The wheel pairs may be driven by independent electric motors, or air jet propulsion drive units may be provided on some of the cylinders. Each cylinder is double-walled. An arm 30 may be mounted on a cylinder and hook at 31 over a rail 32 mounted on the support rail 33, to assist stability on curves.
|
